I take privacy very seriously. I started The Twit Cleaner to get rid of spammers & other dodgy people!
Here's the exact information The Twit Cleaner stores about you and why:

  • A cookie (a small text file on your computer) - which contains the people you don't want unfollowed, your Twitter OAuth info, and some temporary information when you're logged in (eg, Wordpress garbage, if you access the blog). Without this, The Twit Cleaner pretty much breaks.

  • Here at The Twit Cleaner HQ, we have your username (obviously) and OAuth token & secret (two strings of gibberish that Twitter gives us when you give us access to your account). This allows us to both read and write to your Twitter account.

Now, this is very important, & applies to any Twitter app you give permission to - you can stop this access at any time, by going to your Twitter page, clicking Settings, then Connections, then Revoke Access. This shut us (or anyone else) out completely & instantly. If we try to do anything, Twitter just spews back errors at us ("Go Away! What the hell do you think you're doing!" etc)

What do we use this account access for?

    1. To send a small tweet about The Twit Cleaner out on your behalf (only IF you allow it). Most users use The Twit Cleaner for free, so this is just a small way of saying thanks. It's 100% optional, just untick the box if you don't want it. I've made it as unsneaky as possible, but if you you think it could be improved, please let me knows & I'll see what I can do about making it even MORE obvious. I'd hate hate HATE someone tweeting from my account if I wasn't expecting it.

    2. To have your account follow @TheTwitCleaner. We do this so we can DM you when your report is ready. We don't have your email address (and can't get it, even with OAuth access), so how else can we let you know? Of course, once you receive that DM, you're very, very welcome to unfollow @TheTwitCleaner. Totally your choice.

    3. Once you've looked at and sorted your report, IF you click the unfollow button, then we will unfollow people for you. Obviously we need account access for this.

These are the ONLY things we use Twitter access for.

Of course, if you have any questions about this policy or The Twit Cleaner in general, I (Si Dawson) would love to hear from you here, or via DM @TheTwitCleaner.
