I wrote Twit Cleaner because I got sick of all the garbage on Twitter. Not just spammers, but bores, yabber-mouths, people who never replied, and so on.
When I had a smaller list, it was common for one person to tweet so much they flooded everyone else off my page.
Then I tried some auto-follow scripts - keyword searching, that kind of thing. They found some great people, but the amount of noise sky rocketed.
Finding & removing spammers and other annoyances one at a time just isn't practical. Who has time to do that?
For me (@SiDawson), I'm on Twitter to meet awesome people, but I couldn't see who they were because there was so much junk!
And thus Twit Cleaner was born.
The thing I've realised is - if you're here for business, you're in the same boat.
A Twitter list that is more focused and full of people that are genuinely interested in what you do is worth significantly more than a larger list full of junk. Fortunately this is starting to be recognised by influence measurers such as Klout (who will rank you higher based on the relevance of your followers & following).
I'm always happy to hear feedback, suggestions etc - either via email or DM @TwitCleaner.
If you'd like to discuss any other Twitter related projects, feel free to drop me a line.
